Integrated Methane Avoidance and Land Restoration
Green Eco Solution (GES) is spearheading the Waste & Land Carbon Initiative, a transformative project in Bagmati Rural Municipality, Makwanpur. This high-impact initiative is a cornerstone of the Just Transition in Nepal, proving that integrated waste management and ecosystem restoration are high-value assets for Nepal carbon markets. By establishing formal municipal waste systems and promoting large-scale agroforestry, we are securing climate resilience while delivering verifiable carbon outcomes.
Investment Pillars: A Blueprint for Nepal Carbon Markets
Industrial-Scale Methane Avoidance & Waste Valorization
In many rural hubs, inadequate waste management leads to open dumping and burning, releasing potent GHGs. Our Waste & Land Carbon Initiative intervenes by establishing formal collection for 1,000 households and implementing centralized aerobic composting. This process achieves significant methane avoidance, converting organic waste into soil-enhancing compost for the Nepal carbon markets.
Social Equity and a Just Transition
Beyond carbon, this initiative is a vehicle for a just transition. We are creating new “Green Jobs” through formal waste collection, sorting, and plastic upcycling. By improving public health and diversifying farmer incomes through agroforestry, we ensure that climate action directly translates into socio-economic upliftment and local ownership.
High-Integrity Carbon Sequestration & Article 6.2 Ambition
To ensure the highest market value, this project is structured specifically to meet Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement and stringent VCM standards like Verra AFOLU. We promote agroforestry practices and plant native bamboo species along riverbanks for soil stabilization. This dual approach ensures that carbon sequestration data is “investment grade,” providing buyers in the Nepal carbon markets with full integrity.
Project Metrics: Strategic Impact Summary
| Metric | Target Impact | Strategic Goal |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Composting & Agroforestry | Methane Avoidance & Carbon Sequestration |
| Mitigation Focus | Waste Diversion & Tree Planting | Article 6.2 Compliance |
| Social Dividend | 1,000+ Green Jobs Created | Just Transition |
| Regional Scale | 5 Schools & 1,000 Households | Nepal Carbon Markets |
The Waste & Land Carbon Initiative represents a definitive shift in methane avoidance and carbon sequestration technology, projected to mitigate significant GHG emissions over a 10-year cycle. By institutionalizing sustainable waste collection and agroforestry through a digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV) framework, we deliver Article 6.2 compliance that de-risks climate finance while accelerating social equity and soil health in Nepal
